Considering our review of the original release of NBA 2K21, most my drawbacks are still current. MyCareer's story remains shallow, the online servers are still aggressively mediocre, and microtransactions are still intrusive. When you add the fact that 2K didn't offer free updates for existing owners, forcing them to buy the $100 version or buy it independently for $70, it's difficult to say that NBA 2K21 on next-gen is the much-needed redemption for a continuously unsatisfactory franchise.
The NBA Draft happened on Wednesday night, and quite honestly, considering the way COVID-19 has affected the development of NBA 2K21 along with the team, I didn't expect to find that the rookies added to the match until following month. However, 2K had a pleasant surprise for fans on Thursday morning. The whole draft class was added to the appropriate teams, as well as the trades that were made recorded with the league had been upgraded.
2K also smartly utilized the scans from the rookies it utilized in MyTeam for NBA 2K20, and added a few more to add a little credibility to the update. Evidently, as a result of COVID-19, 2K was not able to scan every player. However, the developers didn't a pretty solid job utilizing their own create-a-player suite to fill in the gaps for the rookies they had been not able to scan.
